Self-Awareness

How to notice their brain, body and breath and how mindfulness impacts their brain, body and nervous system.

Self-Management

How to use mindfulness to manage big emotions such as anxiety and stress.

Social Awareness And Relationship Skills

How to use mindfulness practices to notice and support those around them and create community.

Responsible Decision-Making

How to use mindfulness to calm their emotional brain and access their thinking brain to make positive decisions for themselves and the community.

Students learn these skills in a scaffolded curriculum that gradually releases the responsibility for leading mindfulness to the students.

By the end of the curriculum, students are able to lead themselves and their classmates through mindfulness practices including breathing, mindful movement and relaxation.

Each lesson contains 3 components:

  1. Mindful Minute - a 3-5 minute mindfulness activity that can be used to start class, in morning circle, before a test, after a transition, etc.

  2. Mini Lesson - a 15 minute extension of the mindful minute that teaches the “science” of the practice and how it works to support their brain, body and breath.

  3. Mindful Movement Lesson - a 30 minute lesson that includes the mindful minute, mini lesson and a movement component.  The movement lesson can be used as an advisory lesson, as part of health or PE curriculum, in a small group counseling setting, or as a weekly lesson in class.

 
 

Our curriculum can be utilized two ways for Kindergarten to 12th grade students:

  1. Educators teach the curriculum in order with weekly lessons and units that build on each other, starting with self-awareness and ending with responsible decision-making.

  2. Educators search and utilize specific lessons based on the needs of their class.  For example, educators can search for “calming” practices and pull up lessons that will help their students ease their anxiety before a test.
